  1. The word \'grand\' is a colloquialism that is unique to Ireland
  2. (particularly the north-east) compared to the rest of Europe (and,
  3. indeed, the world). Traditionally, the word \'grand\' is an adjective

  6. synonyms.
  7. `Person A: "Howiya Mick, you keeping well?"`\
  8. `Person B: "Ah yeah I'm doing grand so I am."`
  9. As \'grand\' is a common word in spoken language, it has inevitably
  10. fallen into use in written language, too, and can often be found in
  11. non-formal emails, letters, and, of course, [IRC](/IRC "wikilink").
  12. ## IRC is grand
  13. \'Grand\' as an adjective has been used on Redbrick IRC for many years,
  14. but its use has increased recently due to the increase of students from

  16. who join and use Redbrick.
  17. ## Levels of grand
